in 1967 some friends & I decided to put out a magazine. we calld it "Toucan." the first issue featured a short story by George Smullen who was a grad student in Kent State's English Dept alongside my co-editor Bob Carothers & myself.
George had already publishd a couple of stories but this was early in his career. we kept in touch over the years. here we are in the front yard of Morris Rd in 1988:
yesterday's mail brought me a copy of George's novel A Price to Pay. its a hefty book. & it already has its own handsome website & a video teaser.

Thank you, Alex. It's been longer than 1988. The picture was probably taken in '68, but I can't say for certain which year but it definitely was in the latter 60's.
checkd my files & this picture was definitely 1988. you stoppd back in Kent on yr way somewhere. unfortunately I don't have any pix of us in grad school back in the '60s.
Whoops. I was wrong and stand corrected. Thank you for setting me straight.
only reason I know for sure is that I keep those little Week-at-a-glance books. you arr'd on Labor Day & stayd for 3 nites. one day we had lunch at what used to be Jerry's Diner.
never argue about times and dates with alex. He could no doubt tell us what we ate for dinner in new orleans on our 2nd night there.
well Ira on our 2nd nite in NOLA we ate at K. Paul's so I suspect it was something blackened
